Building the model Abraham Lincoln ship for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
This was a one off build.
The hull was a series of wood formers that were filled with foam and shaped. The surface was puttied over to give a hard working surface.
Once all the main detailing was done, a silicone mould was made to then create a rigid hollow fibreglass hull.
This could then be fitted to the steel support frame and the final detailing could start.
It was more than ten weeks to build this model. We had to also match full size sections build on the stage.
It was an enjoyable model to make.
After days of filming on the fx stage we took the model back and cut big access holes in the back side....
.... to allow access for the pyros and the model was blown to bits for the final battle scene.
